Each year Zone 16 runs a camp for financial pony club riders. This seven day camp coincides with the NSW and ACT March/ April school holidays. The camp is held at Bungendore Showground, and is a great event attracting a large number of riders ranging from 3 years to associate riders (young adults).
On average 200 riders attend this camp from both zone 16 and beyond. Don’t be frightened by the numbers, this is a well organised camp and is a fantastic week to try many equestrian disciplines that can’t be offered at a rally day, make new friends, learn more about pony club and horses in general.
At camp children will generally experience (depending on instructors being available) dressage, flat work, theory sessions, jumping sessions, cross country, sporting, mounted games, polocrosse, polo, orienteering, tent pegging, veterinary health, horse ball and all around good fun. A specialised led rider program is also offered to support our up and coming very young riders. Each year the program is developed to ensure new activities are available for all.
The camp entry is generally communicated in December through clubs and will include details of the camp for the coming year. Entry is coordinated through your local club. Each rider is requested to ensure a parent helper is available – this camp does not run without the support of our volunteers (and commonly it is our parent volunteers that enjoy camp the most as great friendships are formed). Camp payment is generally inclusive of all meals for the rider, and basic feed for the horse (chaff and hay), and camping costs.
Once entered for camp – The Camp Guide for Dummies is sent to all with all information relevant for the camp. This guide also outlines a large list of hints and tips that have arising from running this camp for over 20 years – and well worth a read as it is updated every year.
