All financial members of pony club are invited to participate in a zone event. Riders participate in their club uniform, and pony club NSW rules apply. Riders are encouraged to plait and present their horses although this is not compulsory.
Zone Championships are held annually for the majority of disciplines. Although these are called a championship they are open to all riders and do cater for all levels of ability. Zone events are a great opportunity to meet other riders in the Canberra and surrounding NSW region and have a great day out with your pony or horse.
Eligibility and Schedules
All financial members of pony club are invited to participate in a zone event. Riders participate in their club uniform, and pony club NSW rules apply. One horse one rider rule applies, at the Jamboree one horse each day is permissible however the rider is not eligible for the overall champion award.
Event Types
Jamboree
This is a full weekend of great events including:
Dressage – often referred to as the “gymnastics” of horse training, since it is designed to improve the suppleness and responsiveness of the horse and the skill of the rider. It is required as basic training for all equestrian events. Competitors must ride standard written tests from memory and are judged on their ability to perform in harmony with their horse. PCANSW uses Equestrian Australia Dressage tests and full details of which tests for the Dressage Championship will be provided on the event schedule.
Sporting – a fun activity testing agility, control and balance. Riders participate in activities such as bending race, flagging race and barrel race.
Equitation – this is a show jumping type event in which the horse and rider are judged on position, control, and technique. Sometimes called the “dressage” of show jumping.
Show riding – An event where horse and rider demonstrate their skills on the flat. The horse is judged on confirmation, paces and manners, whilst riders are judges on their riding ability.
The program is modified slightly each year to ensure the majority of zone 16 members are catered for and all levels of riders are catered for (led riders are encouraged to participate in this event however are not able to participate in jumping disciplines).
Riders compete in their club uniform, and the program is run under the rules and requirements of pony club NSW.
