The core unit of Pony Club is the local club. Local clubs vary in size, but are generally confined to members within a relatively small geographic area.
Clubs get together at least once a month, sometimes more frequently, usually on a Sunday. These regularly club days are called rally days. Multiple local clubs may conduct joint mounted and unmounted meetings, and usually compete together in regional competitions.
All clubs in Zone 16 are able to and do hold an annual event. These events are open to riders of other clubs to attend. Club events are a great opportunity to meet other riders in the Canberra and surrounding NSW region and have a great day out with your pony or horse.
At most clubs, the ages of members range from pre-school to twenty-five. Because of this vast age range, older Pony Clubbers are able to provide assistance to younger members, and younger members are able to be mentored.
Club event programs are developed by the club and commonly may include any of the pony club disciplines however the most common include:
- Gymkhana – this commonly includes show riding, sporting and show jumping.
- Combined Training – this commonly includes dressage and show jumping.
